Math
This month we will continue working on addition facts (1-9), and dynamic addition using the Stamp Game and Small Bead Frame. We have also started Subtraction. Money is yet another exciting part of the Math Curriculum which the students enjoy. They will continue working on various activities that teaches them how to identify the coins and their value. In Geometry we will explore basic Shapes and the various Triangles.
Language
This month in Language we will continue the spelling program and journal writing. In Vocabulary, the students will be introduced to Antonyms and Synonyms and how to use a dictionary. We will also continue to work on the proper use of Capital Letters and the period. We are also enjoying our first Novel Study, The Wind Wagon, written by Celia Barker. This is an inspring novel based on a true story of Sam Peppard's dream to sail west across the windy prairies on his eye-catching invention in 1859. Our Reading Program has been a great success this term and I wanted to take this time to thank all of you for your ongoing support.

Culture
In Geography, we will continue working on the Map of North America and move on to the Map of Canada before the end of the month. In Botany, students will be introduced to the First Knowledge of Plants. In History, we will begin to explore the Months of the Year and continue with the Class Diary. Zoology has also been introduced and we will be working with materials that focus on the First Knowledge of the Animal Kingdom. Students will have the opportunity to explore many types of animals and research one of their choice.

Science
Science has been a fabulous addition to our classroom. The students are currently working on the Weather Ways unit. We will begin this unit observing the weather and recording our findings, using a two week weather report chart. There will also be a variety of experiments that we will perform in the class that will further advance the students understanding of the weather and how it affects their daily lives.

Note to parents!
This is the time of year that many of us dread. Cold weather season. I kindly ask that you send appropriate outdoor clothing for your child, hat, mitts, and scarf. Our outdoor recess lasts 45 minutes and although they are active during that time, it can still get quiet chilly.
Thank you so much,
Ms.Wiseman :)
