                Mrs.Dod's Grade One Class

              

                       Remembrance Day

 

It is hard to believe we are entering the last half of Term

One already.  October was wonderfully busy and fruitful month.  Our class would like to thank parents for their generous contribution to our Thanksgiving Food Drive.

In Math we will continue to work on addition and subtraction using the Stamp Game and we will also focus on memorizing our addition facts.  Some students will be introduced to the Multiplication Bead Board and the Division Bead Board.  We will continue to explore Canadian Money and learn how to make change.  Children will complete follow up activities in their Money Workbooks.  We will start our unit on greater than,less than and equal to.

Our students have been working very hard on their spelling lists. They enjoy looking up words independently in the classroom dictionaries. We are reading Charlotte's Web together in class, the students are enthralled with the story and look forward to hearing a small part each day. This month we will begin our first novel study book of Sam Peppard's adventures in The Wind Wagon. Some students will begin to practice cursive writing.  We will continue working on compound words , nouns, antonyms and synonyms.

November is promising to be packed with excitement. The students will be conducting a variety of hands on science experiments, something our class always finds fascinating. In History the students have been exploring the clock and the passage of time. We have been busy discussing the Days of the Week and the Months of the Year. The students are enjoying learning about the names of gods that were honored to represent to Days of the Week. They will be starting their Clock Workbooks and making a Month of the Year and Parts of the Year booklets. In Geography we will learn the Map of Canada, including capital cities, provincial flag and symbols.
